Overview
The Design Studio is Flipsnack's built-in editor — the place where you create flipbooks from scratch, edit uploaded PDFs, and fine-tune every page before publishing. Whether you're a marketer updating a brochure, a sales team refreshing a catalog, or an internal comms specialist revising a company policy, the Design Studio is where those changes happen.
This article is a quick orientation guide: how to open the Design Studio, what the main areas of the workspace are, how your work is saved, and how to push your changes live. For step-by-step instructions on specific tasks, follow the links to the dedicated articles throughout.
Requirements
Note: All you need is a Flipsnack account and an up-to-date web browser. Flipsnack is entirely web-based, so there's nothing to install — you can log in and pick up your work from any computer.
Use cases
- Marketing teams — open an existing flipbook, tweak text and images, and republish without waiting on a designer.
- Product catalogs — remove outdated pages and swap in updated ones so the catalog your buyers see is always current.
- Internal communications — revise a policy or handbook and push the update live at the same link, so employees always find the latest version.
How to access the Design Studio
- Go to your main dashboard, My Flipbooks, at app.flipsnack.com/myflipbooks.
- Find the flipbook you want to work on.
- Click the Edit button, or open the three dots menu (•••) next to the flipbook title and select Edit.
- The flipbook opens in the Design Studio, ready to edit.
Not sure whether you're in the right place? If you can see options such as Upload my files or Design from scratch, you're already inside the Design Studio.
Finding your way around the Design Studio
Here are the areas you'll use most, and where to go for a deeper look at each:
- App header — at the top left you'll find the File, View, and Help menus. Clicking the Flipsnack logo in the top-left corner takes you back to My Flipbooks at any time.
- Canvas — the central working area where you edit the page you've selected.
- Pages panel — your page overview. Select several pages at once by holding Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) while clicking them, then delete the selection with the trash icon at the bottom of the panel. For reordering, duplicating, and replacing pages, see How to organize, delete, or replace pages in Design Studio and Delete multiple pages.
- Edit PDF — lets you edit text and images on your uploaded pages directly, without replacing the whole PDF.
- Profile picture — in the right panel; click it and select My Flipbooks to return to your main dashboard. You can read more about the dashboard itself in Learn about the Main dashboard.
The sidebar layout was recently refreshed — see Updated sidebar in Design Studio for a tour of what moved where.
Replacing the whole PDF
If you'd rather swap the entire source file than edit individual pages, that happens from the dashboard, not the Design Studio:
- In My Flipbooks, click the three dots menu (•••) next to the flipbook and choose Replace PDF.
- Upload the new PDF.
- Leave Keep previous interactions checked if you want to retain the interactive elements you've already added.
Important: the new PDF must have the same number of pages as the current flipbook.
How your work is saved
Flipsnack auto-saves your work as you edit, and every project is stored in the cloud. There's also a Save option in the Design Studio if you want the reassurance of an extra manual save.
Changes you haven't published yet are kept as a draft version in your account — visible only to you until you publish. And because everything lives in the cloud, you can log in from any computer through a web browser and continue right where you left off.
How to publish your changes
- When you're done editing, click Share now.
- Select Update (or Publish, if the flipbook hasn't been published before) to push your changes live.
The link to your flipbook stays the same after republishing, so anyone with access will simply see the updated version at the same address. For the full workflow, see How to edit a published flipbook and then republish it.
Troubleshooting
What to do if the Design Studio or its navigation isn't behaving as expected:
- Refresh the page.
- Restart your browser and log in again.
- Clear your browser cache.
- Make sure your browser is up to date.
- Try a different browser (for example Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
If the editor feels slow or unresponsive rather than broken, see How to troubleshoot performance issues in the Design Studio. If the problem persists, reach out via live chat.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to save my work manually?
No — Flipsnack auto-saves as you edit. The Save option in the Design Studio is there if you'd like an extra manual save.
Will my flipbook's link change when I republish?
No. The link stays the same, and viewers with access will see the updated version at the same address.
Can readers see my unpublished edits?
No. Unpublished changes are saved as a draft that only you can see until you publish.
Can I replace the PDF without losing my interactions?
Yes — when using Replace PDF, keep the Keep previous interactions option checked. Remember the new PDF must have the same number of pages as the current flipbook.
How do I get back to my dashboard?
Click the Flipsnack logo in the top-left corner, or click your profile picture in the right panel and select My Flipbooks.
