How to set up LinkedIn tracking in a flipbook

Deploy the LinkedIn Insight Tag via Google Tag Manager to trace B2B reader conversions and build target retargeting audiences

Table of Contents

Overview

Tracking how readers interact with your flipbooks is a powerful way to understand content performance and qualify high-intent prospects based on real engagement. By integrating the LinkedIn Insight Tag with Flipsnack via Google Tag Manager (GTM), you can trace reader demographics, monitor conversion actions, and optimize your overall B2B content distribution strategy.

Requirements

Before beginning the configuration, ensure you have gathered the following:

  • Flipsnack plan: Available on the Enterprise plan (as Google Tag Manager integration is required).
  • Permissions: You must have Owner or Administrator permissions within your Flipsnack workspace.
  • Google Tag Manager: A separate GTM container created and actively connected to your Flipsnack profile or flipbook.
  • LinkedIn campaign manager: Access to an active LinkedIn Campaign Manager account.

Use cases

  • B2B retargeting: Capture audiences who have engaged with your digital whitepapers, annual reports, or sales brochures, and serve them targeted sponsor placements on LinkedIn.
  • Content ROI measurement: Track how many LinkedIn members click your in-page call-to-action (CTA) buttons, fill out lead forms, or download your materials.
  • Geographical and professional insights: Utilize LinkedIn's professional demographic reporting to see the job titles, industries, and company sizes of the professionals interacting with your flipbooks.

How to configure LinkedIn tracking

Setting up LinkedIn tracking involves a three-step process: finding your LinkedIn credentials, configuring the tag in Google Tag Manager, and linking your GTM container ID to your Flipsnack workspace.

Step 1: Retrieve your LinkedIn Partner ID

  1. Log in to your LinkedIn Campaign Manager account.
  2. In the left-hand navigation menu, click Analyze and select Insight Tag.
  3. Locate your unique Partner ID (a string of numbers) within the provided tracking script and copy it to your clipboard.

Step 2: Add the LinkedIn Insight Tag to Google Tag Manager

  1. Log in to your Google Tag Manager account and select the container associated with your Flipsnack profile.
  2. From the GTM Workspace dashboard, navigate to the Tags section in the left sidebar and click New.
  3. Name your tag (e.g., LinkedIn Insight Tag).
  4. Click Tag Configuration and select the native LinkedIn Insight tag template from the gallery.
  5. Paste your copied LinkedIn Partner ID into the designated field.
  6. Scroll down to Triggering and select the All Pages trigger (this ensures the tag fires on all your flipbook pages).
  7. Click Save in the top right corner.
  8. Click Submit and then Publish to push your container changes live.

Step 3: Connect Google Tag Manager to Flipsnack

With your GTM container prepared, you must now paste your container ID into your Flipsnack workspace settings. You can do this at the individual flipbook level or globally across your entire custom subdomain profile.

To configure GTM on an individual flipbook:

  1. From the main dashboard, go to the Content (formerly My Flipbooks) section.
  2. Locate the flipbook you want to track and click the Customize button.
  3. In the left sidebar panel of the Customize page, click on Add-ons.
  4. Locate the Google Tag Manager tab, toggle it to On, and paste your GTM Container ID (formatted as GTM-XXXXXXX).
  5. Click Share (or Update) in the top right corner of the header to apply the changes.

To configure GTM globally across your custom profile:

  1. From the main dashboard, click on Branding in the lower-left corner.
  2. Navigate to Brand Profile and select the Settings tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Google Tag Manager field.
  4. Paste your GTM Container ID and click Save changes.

Troubleshooting

If your LinkedIn Campaign Manager shows no active signal from your flipbooks, test the setup with these steps:

  • Verify publication status: GTM and LinkedIn tracking tags do not execute on drafts or inactive publications. Ensure your flipbook is fully published as Public or Unlisted.
  • Inspect the container using GTM Preview Mode: Open your Google Tag Manager workspace and click Preview in the top right corner. Enter the direct link of your published flipbook and click Connect. Ensure the LinkedIn Insight Tag shows as Succeeded or Fired.
  • Embedded flipbooks not tracking: If your flipbook is embedded inside an iframe on an external site, local browser security filters or strict Content Security Policies (CSP) may prevent the script from sending back analytics. Check your website’s security settings or distribute the direct, standalone flipbook link to verify tracking behavior.
