Is Flipsnack accessible?

The Flipsnack platform, including our website, player, and the flipbooks created within, is fully compliant with WCAG guidelines, adhering to ADA and Section 508 standards.

Here at Flipsnack, we’ve taken important steps toward making our website and flipbooks accessible. Explore our VPAT for more details.

Website accessibility

To ensure that all Flipsnack content on our public website is accessible to everyone, we have installed an accessibility widget provided by AccessiBe. You can view it in the lower right corner of our website. It allows people with specific disabilities to adjust our website’s UI (user interface) to fit their needs.

website accessibility

Through this widget, the site automatically becomes compliant with numerous regulations, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It also provides compliance with ADA Title III, Section 508, EAA/EN 301549.

Here are some features available inside the accessibility widget that make the website accessible:

  1. Typography settings - it allows the increase and decrease of the font size, type, spacing, alignment, line height
  2. Color editing - select color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds with over 7 different color options
  3. Animations epileptic users can stop all running animations instantly at the click of a button. Those animations include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions
  4. Content highlighting emphasize important elements such as links and titles, or choose to highlight focused or hovered elements specifically
  5. Audio mutingmute the entire website instantly (great for users with hearing devices, who may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing)
  6. Cognitive disordersthe widget has an integrated search engine linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to easily decipher the meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others
  7. Screen reader optimizations - accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the widget provides an image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag. It will also extract texts embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.
  8. Keyboard navigation - the widget adjusts the website’s HTML, making the website fully operable by keyboard. This makes it possible to navigate the entire site using the TAB and SHIFT+TAB keys, operate drop-downs with the arrow keys, close them with ESC, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key, and more. Additionally, keyboard users will find quick navigation and content-skip menus (Alt+1).
  9. Other options change cursor color and sizing, set printing mode, virtual keyboard, and more.

Browser and Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our site and widget support a wide array of browsers and assistive technologies so that users can choose the best-fitting tools with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, the public site and the accessibility widget support all the modern, major, and popular systems that comprise over 95% of the users’ market share and include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, Microsoft Edge, and I.E 11 or above, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.

Flipbooks accessibility

We are committed to providing all users with equal access to our digital content, regardless of their abilities. This reflects our dedication to accessibility and inclusivity and has led us to implement the Accessibility feature.

Accessibility on Flipsnack allows publishers to create summaries of flipbook pages for people with visual disabilities to improve visual approachability. If you're interested in enabling Accessibility, you can find more information in this article - How to make your flipbooks accessible in Flipsnack.

At Flipsnack, we believe that accessibility is a cornerstone of good design. That's why our flipbook player comes with clear labels for all buttons and interactive elements, making it easy to navigate by keyboard and fully compatible with screen readers:

  • All player buttons are labeled and navigable by keyboard: previous page, next page,  search button, download button, etc.
  • All flipbook elements are labeled and navigable by keyboard: shapes, images, videos, hyperlinks, etc.

This ensures that users who rely on assistive technologies can experience content in a meaningful and engaging way without any barriers.

AI for accessibility

Now, with AI integration, you can also simplify your flipbook creation process. You can eliminate manual tasks such as copying and pasting for each page. Our technology simplifies your workflow by automatically generating content summaries for every page, saving you valuable time.
